A Scientific Awareness Event from OMU OGEM: "Special Education in the Shadow of Pseudoscience"

The Ondokuz Mayıs University Developmental Education Application and Research Centre (OGEM) hosted a meaningful event to mark 3 December, the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. The event, held online with the support and technical collaboration of the Ondokuz Mayıs University Distance Education Centre (UZEM) infrastructure, was titled "Special Education in the Shadow of Pseudoscience: How Can We Tell Correct Information Apart?".

The event opened up for discussion how the boundaries between scientific knowledge and pseudoscience in the field of special education can be told apart. While the importance of practices grounded in science was conveyed to participants, the harm that information pollution causes in sensitive areas of education in particular was stressed.

Through this event OGEM set out to strengthen critical thinking within the academic community and among practitioners, to spread decision-making based on scientific truth in special education, and to raise public awareness.
