An Institutional Occupational Health and Safety Move from OMU UZEM

The Ondokuz Mayıs University Distance Education Application and Research Centre (UZEM), working in collaboration with our academic staff, offers a comprehensive in-service training programme in occupational health and safety for all the employees and students across the university.

These courses, prepared for the academic and administrative staff working in the different units of the university, aim to raise awareness of risk and to embed a culture of safe working in the institution. The course content covers subjects such as basic occupational safety rules, emergency management, ergonomics, fire safety, the use of personal protective equipment and protection against occupational diseases.

Offered in both synchronous and asynchronous form, the courses are delivered through a range of digital learning materials, instructional videos and online assessment activities. So that participants can reach them easily and work through them at their own pace, the courses are made available on UZEM's digital course platform (portal.uzem.omu.edu.tr).

The OHS training programme has reached a total of 11,047 participants to date. The participant groups break down as follows:

SUVAM (Health Application and Research Centre): 2798 participants

Staff "OHS": 5191 participants

Student "OHS": 3058 participants

We care that all the staff and students working at our university have a healthy and safe working environment. The training programmes we run to that end are not only about meeting a legal obligation but also aim to create a social consciousness and awareness.
